چکیده

LIGHTNER, LAWRENCE K., AND ULXJER, MAHLIN J. 1974. Trickinellu spiralis: Effect of environmental temperature on mice. Experimental Pamsitology 35, 262-265. Effects of environmental temperature on Trichinellu spiral&infected mice were studied. Groups of mice were acclimated to temperatures of 8-10 C, 20-25 C, and 36 C for a period of 5 clays and then were exposed to 100 infective juveniles of T. spirulis via stomach intuhation. After being maintained at the above temperatures for 5 days, they were examined for adult worms. Results indicate that mice maintained at 36 C tend to harbor significantly higher numbers of adults and that there is a direct relationship between temperature and worm number. Effects of mouse strain differences on these results were also examined. Of those strains tested, inbred Swiss albino mice proved to be superior hosts for T. spirolis.

Amelioration of Myogenin, Bcl-2 expression and DNA damages in myocytes of Trichinella spiralis-infected mice after immunization with gamma radiation-attenuated larvae

Background: In trichinosis, the presence of muscle larvae inside skeletal striated muscle causes loss of identity and function of myotube through the releasing of myogenin and myosin. Considering the dominant role of vaccination, research on gamma radiation-attenuated vaccine has very promising value. The goal of this study was to determine the efficacy of vaccination with radiation-attenuated ...

Decreased susceptibility to Listeria monocytogenes in mice after infection with Trichinella spiralis.

Mice challenged intravenously with Listeria monocytogenes at 7 or 21 days after Trichinella spiralis infection demonstrated a higher mean lethal dose and longer survival time than normal mice. This effect of helminthic infection was abrogated after 49 days.

Eosinophils and resistance to Trichinella spiralis

Mice infected with Trichinella spiralis were depleted of eosinophils by repeated administration of rabbit anti-mouse eosinophil serum. There was no effect on the spontaneous expulsion of adult worms from the small intestines, but the numbers of larvae in the muscles were almost doubled. It is concluded that eosinophils contribute to resistance to the systemic phase of trichinosis.

Survival of North American genotypes of Trichinella in frozen pork.

North American genotypes of Trichinella spiralis (T-1), Trichinella nativa (T-2), Trichinella pseudospiralis (T-4), Trichinella murrelli (T-5), and Trichinella T-6 were examined for susceptibility to freezing in pork using time-temperature combinations that have been proven to inactivate T. spiralis. Infections were established in 3-month-old pigs of mixed sex and breed by oral inoculation of 1...

Delayed expulsion of adult Trichinella spiralis by mast cell-deficient W/Wv mice.

Mast cell-deficient W/Wv mice and their mast cell-sufficient littermates were given infections of Trichinella spiralis. W/Wv mice were slower than their littermates to expel adult T. spiralis. Repair of the mast cell deficiency of W/Wv mice by bone marrow grafting was accompanied by accelerated expulsion of T. spiralis.
